What is a “ Doodle”?
A doodle is considered a designer breed as it is not a purebred, but a hybrid. A doodle is a cross between any purebred breed and a standard, miniature or toy Poodle. For example a Goldendoodle is the cross between a Golden retriever and a Poodle, a Bernedoodle is the cross between a Bernese mountain dog and a Poodle, and so on. The most common doodles include Goldendoodles, Bernedoodles, and Sheepadoodles, but the term doodle is not limited to those three breeds.
Do they shed?
To make a long answer short, maybe, because the doodle is a hybrid it is hard to predict the coat type of each puppy. They are known as light to non shedding, from my experience in the grooming world it is about a 50/50 on wether they are non to light shedding, because I’ve seen both shading and non shedding.
Are they hypoallergenic?
The word “hypoallergenic” literally means to have less allergic reactions than others, so this really varies between person to person, if you are allergic to pet danders we suggest that you learn your own tolerance before purchasing a puppy, but generally doodles are great companions to those that are allergic to pet danders.
Do they need to be groomed?
Yes, yes, yes! Doodles are far from low maintenance, they need to be groomed every 4-6 weeks with weekly to bi-weekly brushing and combing at home, again some are higher maintenance than others but please do not wait to brush your puppy, try to sit with them while you are relaxing and run a brush and comb through their hair as this helps the pup get used to regular grooming procedures that they will be needing through the span if their entire life.
How is their temperament?
Doodles are known for their good temperaments, some more than others, but socialization will be your best friend in the long run. Each dog has their own temperament, some may be timid and some may be very hyper, socialization is best for the more timid pups, and exercise is better for the more hyper pups. Introduce your fur babies to new noises and environments while they are young as it will be easier to correct bad habits while they are young, please do so in a safe and calm manner, as correcting a dog should never come out of frustration and/or anger.
